As a wooden boatbuilder it’s hard to resist painting boats and the people that build them. my paintings are an exploration into my own relationship to the craft and to the beautiful complex shapes on the water.
Painting from life allows me to be an active participant in real time. Changing conditions force me to hone my craft so that I may work quickly and instinctively.
I am compelled to create in this direct way because it brings me outside, into nature, into to my community. I meet and engage with people and environments wherever I paint. It reminds me that I am in and of this beautiful world.
